Rahab has not only been doing an incredible job, but her puppies are thriving and actively gaining weight every day. They already have their own personalities and I have buyer requests coming in. All is great in the Ginger Tails kennel!
Much to my horror, Rahab went into labor while I was still away at a family reunion in Colorado. She managed to escape from her whelping pen, make her way out by our woods, and successfully had SEVEN healthy pups. Thankfully all were found and carted back to her whelping house with mother in tow, and are fat and thriving today at almost three days old! Born 8-8-2014, they were nearly a week early, but you would never know it by their size! Rahab is doing a wonderful job, I couldn't have asked for a better female. I am immensely grateful for their health and anticipating the coming weeks.
That's right, day 48 and I not only got to feel the puppies move, but I saw them too! Little ripples under her skin on her belly have made my day. Rahab is getting very big and the last couple days have been full of changes. She is up to six cups of food a day (where she regularly has only three), and peeing like a pregnant woman. My mother and I spent yesterday building her whelping house and pen, to much success! There are only a few minor things that have to be completed before the due date, which is rapidly approaching. Today I broke down and finally took the clippers to her gorgeous long hair, knowing that it will make whelping and nursing easier, and also keep her cool. She seems generally happy, healthy, and active, which is awesome to see as her belly swells! I am much anticipating her upcoming litter and guessing at about six puppies.
Bring on the Swelly Belly! Rahab has started clearly showing, her teets have darkened and grown, and she's started to shed that belly hair. This week has been all about slowing down in her everyday play habits. Suddenly chasing down Brewski after a tennis ball doesn't seem so appealing. She has also become more docile and laid back, preferring to stick right beside me rather than go off exploring. With her food double her normal intake, she's one happy girl. I cannot wait for the joy and excitement of her first litter.,
Rahab seems to be clearly pregnant. Her due date is August 14th :) We increased her food intake this week as well as clipped her belly hair to easily see her stomach grow. Her nipples are very prominent and darkening. All is well in the ginger tails kennel.
