Unfortunately this pregnancy of Cleo's simply didn't take. I am at a loss at all of the symptoms she displayed. But I am hopeful for this up coming heat cycle. We think the likliest scenario was that she re-absorbed her pups.
In an earlier post I mentioned how a stared at her every hour praying a pregnancy belly would appear, saying how silly it was. Well, I did exactly that again yesterday, and it payed off! It seemed she started to expand before my eyes yesterday after looking distinctly NOT PREGNANT for days (even her little belly bump had receded) you could suddenly see her nipples as she walked and simply could not hold it in anymore! Needless to say, I am one very happy girl!
The anxiety continued! Honestly, you would think I would relax and let what happens happen, but instead I was looking at her every hour hoping for a pregnant belly to simply appear. She had an appetite this week and was very energetic. Talk about a scare! But she had a slight "sausage" look to her that kept me believing! At one point she went berserk after urinating, not quite sure what that was about, seeing as I had kept a close eye on her to note any discharge and there was nothing at all to be alarmed about. I decided if it happened again I would seek advice but so far all is good. There was definite clear discharge at the end of the week that perked up my spirits immensely. Come on pregnant belly!
There were few changes in Cleo this week. I began to worry she was not be pregnant, though her nipples were firm and her vulva had stayed swollen. She had bursts of energy and would rough house, though she still was not her usual self.
This week Cleo had a defined belly when held up onto hind legs, though it had no width. She was an absolute terror! She tore into the garbage at every turn and simply refused to eat her dry kibble! So I started alternating between egg and cottage cheese mixed into her food to entice her to eat the kibble. I thought she had a little bit of clear discharge and she continued to be very clingy and sleepy.
Week two! Cleo felt a bit sick at the start of the week and vomited up her food. When lifted up, a small bump could be seen. I think her body was making way for those embryos to start developing! Everyone is guessing three, I'm praying for five, but honestly any number will be the perfect number. As long as they are healthy and strong.
During this past week Cleo was sluggish and Clingy. She was a bit picky with her food and was over all very strange. Her usually independent and regal attitude instead was needy and anxious.
Cleo tied with Noah a total of seven times over a period of ten days. Three of those ties occurred while being dogsat by my unwatchful mother, an experienced breeder. Thanks mom! lol In the end they last tied on the Eighth of March, 19 days after the start of her heat! But it seems that this was a very good thing indeed because I think she took on the very last tie. So here I was believing her to be ten days ahead of what she is and biting my nails with anxiety because she didn't start showing when she should have!
